Over & Under Conveyors

Tech-Con manufactures a unique range of over-under line feed equipment. Our in-house engineering team can provide a complete turnkey system to meet all your needs.

To optimize floor space, each over-under unit is comprised of two conveyors, one above the other. Containers roll down an infeed conveyor to a lift-and-tilt device, where they are ergonomically positioned for an operator. After being loaded (or unloaded), the containers roll down an outfeed conveyor to be removed by a forklift.

Over-under conveyors can be built to hold as many as eight containers in queue. Conveyors are designed to handle automotive-style shipping containers, racks, and pallets. The units can lift-and-tilt containers weighing up to 2500 lbs. The outfeed conveyor can handle pallets with a maximum loaded weight of 6,000 lbs. Extra empty pallets can be stored in an optional overhead rack.

Tech-Con can make several styles to fit any budget and application. Base pneumatic lift units can tilt containers up to 88° for presentation to an operator. More sophisticated electric chain lift systems have can adjust the presentation tilt to 90° and adjust the container height to suit any operator. Conveyors can be gravity feed or chain feed.
Containers can tilt forward or to the side.

Our high speed units can handle container exchanges in 15 seconds.

Advantage: Safety

Tech-Con over-under conveyors allow forklifts and line operators towork in separate areas. Forklifts approach from one direction andplace containers on a purpose designed receiver. Operators don’tshift heavy containers. Operator’s don’t move among the containers.

Advantage: Ergonomic Presentation

Containers are tilted to allow the operator easier access. Some unitscan also adjust the height of the container to suit any operator.Ergonomic positioning of the container reduces repetitive stress andfatigue and speeds up the task. Operators don’t spend timepositioning containers.

Advantage: Buffers

Containers wait in queues on the conveyors. Operators don't wait forthe fork lift and fork lifts don’t wait for the operator. Containers foreach line position are placed and picked up at a specific over-underunit. Containers are stored neatly and securely until needed. No shortages. No mix ups.

Option: Over-Under vs. Side-by-Side

Side-by-side conveyors offer many of the same advantages. They keepthe containers low to the floor but use more floor space.

Over-under units have one conveyor above the other. The verticalconfiguration optimizes floors space.Anumber of over-under units canbe placed closely beside each other along the line.

Option: Top Load vs. Bottom Load

Empty containers are handled by the top conveyor.

If containers are being, then empty containers will be delivered tothe top conveyor and full containers will be removed from the bottomconveyor.

Option: Front Tilt vs. Side Tilt
5-position, Electric,Side Tilting,Gravity Feed, Top Load,Over-Under Conveyor

Over-under conveyors can tilt containers to the front or to the sidedepending on the optimum use of floor space. The units can bemade to any layout required.

Option: Pneumatic vs. Electric
Chain Feed Style

Pneumatic lift-and-tilt units can handle loads up to 1000 lbs. Containersare lifted and tilted using an arrangement of pneumatic cylinders, cablesand pulleys. The units are generally less expensive than comparableelectric systems.

Electric lift-and-tilt units can handle loads up to 2000 lbs. Containers arelifted and tilted using an arrangement of electric motors, chains andsprockets. The units are generally more expensive than comparablepneumatic systems.

Option: Gravity Feed vs. Chain Feed

Most over-under conveyor are made with gravity feed inclined rollerconveyors. The pallets are controlled using pneumatic stop gates andbraking rollers.

Chain conveyors can be used for heavier loads where more control maybe required or where the direction of loading may be reversed.

Option: Tilt vs. Cantilever
Tilt style units tip containers forward to allow ergonomic access.

Tilt style units tip containers forward to allow ergonomic access.

Cantilever style units don’t tilt but they allow access to three sides ofthe container.

Option: Special Equipment

Tech-Con has built over-under units with a number of special features including turntables, etc. Buffer conveyors can extendstraight back from the load area or be L-shaped. Some units bringpallets in on a transverse chain conveyor.

Safeguards

Tech-Con over-under conveyors are equipped with Emergency Stop buttons. Interlocks prevent container release whenthe carriage is not in position and prevent lift movement when a container is only partly on the carriage. Optionalsafeguards may include a safety mat or light curtain to protect the operator from containers as they tilt forward. All lifts are equipped with safety curtains around the hazard area under the carriage.
